“Not disability friendly. We stayed at the property from 22nd to 24th August for my daughter’s wedding. The property itself is in a lovely setting, and I cannot praise the reception staff enough. They were absolutely amazing, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the accessibility, cleanliness or organisation surrounding the wedding. Before our stay, we had specifically spoken to the wedding coordinators and were assured that the venue and lodges were wheelchair accessible. This was extremely important to us as one of our party uses a wheelchair. Sadly, the reality was very different. My friend could not access her lodge independently because of the steps and needed help getting in and out. She also could not get through the lodge area to reach the field where we were holding a gender reveal. There was no suitable wheelchair route, and barriers had to be physically lifted to allow her through. The same problem occurred at the other end. For the wedding itself, she struggled to get all the way up through the woodland area to the venue. In my opinion, this venue should not be described as wheelchair friendly or fully wheelchair accessible without making the limitations extremely clear. Had we known the true situation beforehand, we could have planned accordingly and avoided putting a wheelchair user through such unnecessary difficulty. Unfortunately, there were also serious issues with the cleanliness of the lodge. We did not have much opportunity to inspect it when we first arrived because we were busy preparing for the gender reveal. The following morning, however, we discovered dog hair throughout the lodge. The top of the microwave was covered in dirt, dust, crumbs and debris, and a storage pocket underneath the top bunk still contained crisp packets. The outside hot-tub area was also disappointing. When we looked up at the canopy above the hot tub, it was absolutely filthy, with dirt and debris actually dropping down from it while we were sitting underneath. There were also significant communication problems regarding my daughter’s wedding. She had been told by the wedding coordinator that she could set up between 9am and 12pm, and that the coordinator would meet her at 9am. While they were putting up the balloon arch, they were confronted by people from the falconry and told to move it immediately because it was not supposed to be there. My daughter has emails from the wedding coordinator confirming arrangements that apparently do not match the information held by the owners/site. That is simply not acceptable when somebody is organising one of the most important days of their life. The different parts of the venue clearly need to communicate much better with each other so that guests are not caught in the middle. It is such a shame because the setting itself is lovely and the reception staff were genuinely fantastic. However, the poor accessibility, lack of cleanliness and breakdown in communication left us extremely disappointed. Most importantly, I believe the venue urgently needs to review how it describes its wheelchair accessibility. People with disabilities and their families need accurate information before booking so that they can make an informed decision about whether the accommodation and venue are genuinely suitable for them.“

This experience could have been better

This is a beautiful place to hold a wedding party and there is plenty to do however we ourselves were recently part of a wedding party and unfortunately we found that it was badly run. Not only where we assured repeatedly when asked about the accommodation side being wheelchair accessible only to find out when we turned up that it was in fact not accessible but that the receptionist was unaware that there was anyone coming that was in a wheelchair. She was lovely and tried to accommodate us as best as she could. The whole place is not wheelchair accessible including the wedding side which was upsetting and made them feel undignified when they had to be carried places because they couldn’t access it. We then turned up the morning of the wedding to set up to be met with the owner of the place to be displeased with us as he had no idea we were told by the wedding coordinator to set up between 9am and 11am. He told us that we weren’t allowed to set up the balloon arch and the rest of the wedding set up and that everything would have to be moved because the falconry were ready to fly and we shouldn’t have even been there. Not only did he make angry phone calls next to the field where we could all hear making us feel really uncomfortable but I personally went down for something we had forgotten and two people working for the falconry were making comments about the wedding party that were not particularly nice. Honestly this was rather unprofessional. I do think the wedding coordinator dropped the ball on this as I’m sure this was something that they were supposed to have made sure that both parties were aware of. The coordinator however lovely as she was also didn’t turn up until 12 as she had another commitment to attend to first but there was no one else to stand in her place and deal with everything that was going on. The bride who is pregnant was rushing around trying to deal with all of this, make phone calls and have all the emails in place to prove that we were allowed to be there as she was getting it from all directions. I think in future the wedding venue needs to deal with and coordinate with all sides of the complalex as this was a mess. There are far too many things that had gone wrong to mention just in this review but I do think they need to take a moment and review what went wrong with this and take the right steps to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else in the future.
